Story of a student named Khushi

Education and dignity exists shoddily for the underprivileged in our prevailing government Institutes. Is a young girl merely a ‘brain’? Or an individual with ‘human relations’ and ‘dignity’. A holistic education brings a change in how we think and live with dignity. While prevailing systems fail to serve this, Sarvam has given a new meaning to the young girl’s life who has learnt dignity.

Khushi aged 14 is one of the most confident students at Sarvam Space who joined in October 2020. She joined to study and learn yoga for fitness. She says that Sarvam foundation has changed her a lot. She has started using ‘aap’ instead of ‘tu’ in her conversations with everyone. She has also managed to convince her parents, relatives and friends to speak using ‘aap’. She says, “हमे रहने का तरीका सिखाया/Taught us how to live”. While our culture teaches us to respect mainly our elders, she has been determined to convince everyone around her of the benefit of talking respectfully using ‘aap’. Education is not only literacy, but using knowledge as a tool for change. She has also learnt how to sit and eat in a proper manner which she loves. She says that she finds the environment peaceful, safe and comfortable- she feels free to ask anything she feels at heart. The dance and Yoga empowers her and she reports seeing the health benefits of it everyday- the way she sits, how long she can sit, and her increased concentration after sitting in a certain manner.

She aspires to be a businesswoman when she grows up and wants to make Sarvam foundation proud. She says that Sarvam foundation has given her everything to succeed in life and that she will make everything out of it.
