Khushi, 15 years of age expresses her love for the Bharatanatyam dance. She is learning from the best teacher that Shakti can provide (an amazing professional artiste) and this has helped inculcate discipline in her lifestyle. Dance allowed her to express her emotions and increase her awareness of herself and others through creative movement thus increasing her emotional maturity. Dance also provides an excellent, low-impact aerobic workout. It also strengthens the heart, lungs, and circulatory system. Khushi is grateful to be a part of Sarvam Shakti like so many others.
Given the prevailing influence of patriarchal values right from birth, a lot of girls bear the burden of gender inequality, and gender stereotypes and are treated inferior to boys. The same held true for Khushi.
The advent of Sarvam Shakti into the lives of young girls has changed the perspective of their families and society as a whole.
Neelam is a diligent student of Sarvam and shared with us how her family is now proud of her for doing well in her academics and learning soft skills who were earlier reluctant to send their daughter to the center.
The immense level of confidence that Viveka has inculcated after joining sarvam shakti is tremendous. She explained how earlier only her brother use to appreciate her for doing bare minimum things but now her voice on several issues is been heard and respected. The family now treats her in a much more dignified way than earlier.
Sofia was facing sexism on a regular basis in her family. The boys of the family were exempted from household chores while she had to do it all alone. Now slowly and gradually because Sofia is now educated and teaches ethics to her family very respectfully.
The stories are endless. Sarvam has not only impacted a girl’s life but also plays a big role in transforming the frame of mind of many families. The organization has contributed to breaking the age-old stereotype which was imposed on young girls.
