Leadership at Shakti through lockdown
Story from a Shakti volunteer:
Never stop learning because life never stops teaching. What if we stop connecting to people and stay introvert? No, this is not how things work. The connection is the energy created between people when feel, seen, heard and valued.
Shakti Girls, who are a part of ‘Global Girls Project’ get an opportunity to connect virtually with each other. Children of the same age group from different countries connect virtually and share ideas and create a bond with
each other.
Shakti girls actively participate and win hearts. They have also been speaking with friends they are going to meet at Brave Kids next year in Poland when the project will start again. The best way to know about a country is through its people. It’s been a wonderful thing that Shakti girls are becoming friends with our neighbouring countries. They took an initiative that probably wouldn’t have been possible during the new normal!
Shakti Girls Teach:
What is absolutely amazing about teaching these children ancient performing arts is how quickly and seriously they grasp the technique, skill and ethos of performing the form. So much so, that our senior Shakti girls (just 14, 15 and 16 years old) are invited to hold workshops at some forums! Whilst at the annual Brave Kids exchange in Poland, they all teach each other their particular art forms, the confidence that comes with such exposure helps the girls in extending their art to others too.
Through the Pandemic lockdown, senior Shakti girls have mentored the junior ones into improving the latters’ technique more. All via videos.
The senior girls have also held workshops virtually, including at Teach For India.
The Shakti seniors are constantly made to practice their leadership skills by mentoring the younger Shaktis.
