Shaktis watch Queen of Katwe & Super 30!
Films in general are a great source of entertainment. When used as a tool for imparting knowledge, they can serve the role of making teaching an enjoyable and interactive process. It provides a break from the monotony of lectures and helps with delivering lessons through visual aid.
2 movie screenings were conducted for the girls at the Gurgaon center, and the movies shown were ‘Queen of Katwe’ and ‘Super 30’ respectively. The girls found both these stories to be highly inspirational and were encouraged by the lessons of passion, dedication, resilience and eventual success though continuous hard work. They were particularly impressed by the fact that both of these films were based on real events, which lit up a new hope in their minds that with determination and hard work, even they can reach great heights.
About ‘Queen of Katwe’, the girls admired the growth of the protagonist Phiona from a destitute girl living in the slums who goes on to compete with world champions at the game of chess and buys a house for her mother. They were also inspired by the protagonist’s mother’s unwavering support for her daughter. ‘Super 30’ turned out to be the favorite of the majority. The girls were struck by the protagonist’s compassion and his dedication to help the poor kids, eventually leading all of them to crack a hard competitive exam. Upcoming movies which the Shakti girls will shortly watch are ‘Hichki’ and ‘I Am Kalam’.
The girls could relate to the characters and their struggle to stand out in the world, and these movies awarded them with the hope to dream without limits. They appreciated these experiences and had nothing but praises for both the films.
